I’d like to share a great learning resource I’ve known about for a while but only now actually decided to utilise. I remember a few years ago when the MIT first unveiled its Open Courseware initiative, where comprehensive sets of lecture notes, videos and even exam papers were made accessible online without charge or even registration.
Last week I bumped into Open Courseware again when I was searching around for some learning materials on Finance. I eventually came across the first set of lecture notes of an ‘Introduction to Finance’ course, given by Professor Jiang of MIT’s Sloan School of Management.
The WorldWideWeb is itself a great learning tool, but sometimes it’s not obvious where to start and the best way to proceed when trying to get familiar with a new topic from scratch. Using lecture notes in tandem with the Web can provide some structure to the learning process. And the Web is great for getting depth and context on a particular point of information.
I’m using all the ‘learning to learn’ university training I built up over the years to help cover the Open Courseware lecture notes. So far the learning’s going pretty good and I feel I’m already getting a better idea of some of the basic financing issues/methods which ordinary businesses have to resolve in their day to day operations.
